LS1 Vortech
LS1 Vortech
Is the LS1 Vortech kit any good? I see that it comes with a V9 G-trim is that right? I hear everyone talking about getting an S-trim, is that an option for the kit? How much more is it?
V9 G Trim is what comes with the kit.
You will need to trim part of your Z/28 hood to make it fit, the Vortech LS1 kit was designed on a Trans Am and they have more underhood clearance.
Vortech says the G Trim is rated up to 575 hp, but folks on my site have dynoed even over 600rwhp with the G Trim so there is more in it.
An S Trim will not fit in the brackets, you would need custom brackets to make it fit and it's physically a bigger housing so it could be a problem.

FWIW, and you may already know this, the LS1/LS6 motors respond phenomenally well to boost. At least in terms of making hp. As to longevity, I am curious to know if they self destruct as readily as a stock LT1 does when boosted?
So as not to hijack the thread, I have also seen what John said, that a G-trim will make big hp on an LS1. Again, I wonder how long the stock short block will last at that boost level though.

Their 9# kit is good for a 140-150hp increase and it comes with everything you need for the install including programming. This system will fit under the Z-28 hood but the SS hood is the one that needs to be trimmed. The ram air ducts get in the way. I've made about 575 rear wheel but as mentioned people have made more with this system.

Tom I did not know the kit would fit under a Z/28 hood thanks for the clarification, that would make a lot of sense now that I think about it.
One thing I have not seen is someone try to alter the stock brackets to fit an S Trim so it might be possible.
I think with a good tune and proper fueling you can get a lot of miles out of a boosted LS1, when I hear of motors going it's usually someone who slapped on a bigger pulley and did not change the tune.
