Intimd8 Rich Krause: Maxing out the S-trim on pump gas

WHen you guys maxed out the S_trim, you did it on pump gas???

I am contemplating going to a T-trim, not to look for more total power but a lot "easier" power or less IAT with the same power due to the higher efficiency... But I want to keep this car as a pump gas car for 99% of the time...

I just want to know if the T-trim (with vortech aftercooler) is a good upgrade still for a pump gas engine, its really what I have wanted all along, and maybe now I can get there moneywise...

If I still want to upgrade just for the "I WANT IT" thing, I Want to know what to expect...

Let me know

and Thanks!!!

Good questions - I would be interested in some of the responses.

For my car, I maxed out the S-trim on Unocal 91 octane gas in CA to get 611rwhp and 608ftlb of torque at 5400rpm. This is with stock fuel rails and fuel lines, but with LJ's impedance box, 72#/hr injectors, one intank Walbro 340M and a voltblaster. This was with a street tune where WOT timing in LT1 Edit set to 28 degree.

I too am contemplating in the far future to upgrade to the T-trim since it should be a direct replacement and my motor can handle up to 15# comfortably (currently only 11#). I always imagine that if you put in enough gas and set the correct tuning you will be fine on pump gas. You must not be too aggressive on the timing, use very cold plugs, make sure there is no fuel starvation, and need to watch very carefully for detonation and misfire.

For the T-trim, I would set it up as such :

Street - pump gas, 4-5 degree less timing, rev it to 6000rpm, don't gun it all the time (plus on the street it is very hard to put down 600+ rwhp anyway)

Track - race gas, fresh ice for every run, maximum timing without detonation, maximum rpm to achieve max boost, with tuned performance.

I understand perfectly what you say as it is my way of thinking...

I do use 36 advance however with 1-1.5 retard/psi 50# injectors and superfueler with 3 96# on the intake plennum...

By the way NICE CAR... that is how I want mine to be

I have the aftercooler setup as timchiaretto has his though with the maf on top

98+ SS spoiler with my OEM SS hood and ZR1 wheels.. I wonder if it looks "neater" or how it should with the 96SS Spoiler

Thanks

Interesting how similar my S-trim results were to Camaro_SS/R's. you already know what my setup was like. And yes, it was on 94 octane unleaded. I don't think a T-trim would make much difference unless you wanted to up the boost.

There will be no significant gain if you make the same boost with the T-trim as with the S-trim. If your setup can tolerate more boost without detonation, it's a different story. What is the best gas you can get? What is your CR and what cam are you using?

383 9.0:1 93 octane (sometimes less but that is what is advertised)

224/236 XE low lift cam

Unless you already have killer heads I think you would gain more from the same $$$ put into head work vs. a bigger blower. Just IMHO.

Hmm... I thought it was the other way around with boost...
I have afrs 190s and they should flow pretty well that with 8psi be making 555...

but I think 190s are too small... I might need BIGGEr heads... maybe.. but not sure since my top rpm is 6300 no more...
