gear setup

just put my procharger w/ 2 core on my 94 z and i'm thinking about going with 410 gears. I have a t56 tranny and i still have the 342's on. I want the best gears to give me the best 1/4 mile times.. I'm running 8psi and have a stock motor w/ headers and all exhaust...please give me your opinion on the gears .. thanks

PersonallY I would not go with anything bigger than a 3.73 for your setup.

Well I don't have a charger-yet but from what I've heard, 410 gears will wind to fast and not allow the boost to build very well, and by the time you get high boost you must change gears. Maybe someone will confirm or deny this. I would love to know the answer, I also want the same setup as you

I've also heard and spoken to folks that say that 4.10's are to much when you have a power adder 3.73's are an option but I personally can't see the value in moving from 3.42 to 3.73.

I think you will benefit the most with a 3.42 when you are running alot of boost.

Agreed on the 3.42. Also, think about this. My naturally aspirated bolt on car is crossing the line at almost 6 grand in 4th gear at 108 mph with my 4.10 gear. Do you really want to have to go below 1:1 gear ratios in a race? I don't.

Depending what tires you are running, you may run out of gear through the traps with even 3.73's. You sure will with 4.10's. I'd say, stick with the 3.42:1 until you try the car out and see how it runs, what your trap speeds are, 60', etc. before making that change. 3.42:1 was perfect for my setup last year, with a 26" tire and a low rev setup I was just running out of gear at the end of the 1/4 mile. I am hoping that I will need a 28" tire this year!

You will probably not be going that fast, so in all likelihood, 3.73's would be ideal. But you really need to get it out on the track before deciding.

God luck.
