I don't think you ever need a different regulator, unless you have a mondo fuel pump and the stock regulator won't bypass enough back to the tank.
If I turn on both of my 255's at idle, the fuel pressure will creep up. If they both stayed on, I would need a high flow regulator and maybe a larger return line.
