Dropping engine out the bottom
Im putting a turbo kit together and need to tap the oil pan for the return line..is there a write up somewhere that tell you step-by-step how to not only drop the engine out the bottom (in my 2 car garage) but how to re-assemble with a tubular k member?
if you do a search you will see tons of pictures of how to do it .... very easy and the only way to go in my opinion... i even drop the cradle when i do cams and header installs cut my time in half..
I searched, but didnt find exactly what i was looking for..looking for something more step by step..

I used this write up the first time I dropped it from the bottom.

but it bent the crap out of the area where the chains go thru the chassis.
Last time (a year ago) I dropped it from the bottom, I used hydraulic bottle jacks on each side and concrete blocks to get the height I needed. This was in my drive way. I sure wish I had that beautiful concrete 2 car garage I left behind in Houston but I got it done.

So it bent the crap out of it? Damn maybe ill just get a strut tower brace and jack it up from that lol..did you still use the wheels laid flat in the rear to get the height you needed?
If you use heavy duty tow straps or, I used 2 1/2 inch wide ratchet straps that were for flat bed tractor trailers to secure cargo, it will not bend anything if you go through the area where the overflow tank is (take it out of course) and below where the stock air cleaner goes. I done it to my car at least three times now and didn't bend anything. Just a thought!

The rack n pinion swap is super easy.
Are you going to retain your stock "A" arms or are you going tubular with those as well?

1) remove front bumper
2) remove bumper support (the piece with the honey comb)
3) attach chains to where the bumper support attaches
thats how I did mine, didnt bend a single thing
1)Then just unplug all sensors, lay them out of the way
2) undo brake lines
3) undo driveshaft
4) undo shock tower bolts
5) undo kmember
6) raise car, leaving kmember and etc on the ground

Thanks for the responses, lots of good ideas in here! I am planning on keeping the stock A arms for now just to save money for turbo parts. Does the rear end need to be elevated the whole time in order to avoid hitting the rear bumper when you raise the front up?
In my experience, yes. You'll need to have the rear end elevated to some degree in order to keep it from contacting the ground.
