Can you run water injection instead of an inter/after cooler???
Can you run water injection instead of an inter/after cooler???
I have been pondering the idea of an SMC water/alky injection kit. Would I also need an intercooler or will that cover my cooling needs? Please give me the scoop on alky injection because I know almost nothing about it.
It works good, but I wouldn't call it a substitute for an intercooler. After all you have to refill it sooner or later. So if you looking for a permanent fix go intercooler. If your looking for somethin to use at the track or the occasional street run in with a muffstank(or turbo buick
) it would work great for you. Or you can do both amd then have a little more for those dam muffstanks! I only know of one lt1(turbod
) running an intercooled and alky set up. He gets an extra 3 psi(about 35hp on his car) when he needs it with the alky.

Rich K seemed to be doing fairly well with an just an alky kit, no intercooler. I'm sure he'd recommend a kit from Kennedy's Dyno Tune .
If you got the cash... Carroll Supercharging has some awesome kits.

So, like TimbrSS said, the two kits to consider are Kennedy's and Carroll's. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either. Don't bother with any of the others, from what I have seen. If you call Kennedy's, feel free to mention my name. They might remember me at Carroll's, but it has been a while since I talked to them.

Mine's a Carroll kit. Expensive, but well done. Since then, Kennedy's has started to make them. Kennedy's kit is also very high quality but it is not as complex as Carroll's kit, hence it's less expensive. Still not extremely cheap (~$550 dollars at present). But I have not seen anything less expensive that I would consider using. The quality of the components used is a key element in making a decent kit. Think of it like a fuel pump in a forced induction car. If it fails at the wrong time, you could lose a motor. Just as a for instance, the pump has to be reliable and powerful enough to deliver ~100psi. These pumps cost over $100 when bought in bulk. So if you see a complete kit for $2-300 it either has a crappy pump or else the other parts will be substandard.

I dont think those are the only two to consider when choosing alky kits especially when smc has had a a good rep over the years. I think all three kits are of great quality.

It starts at like 300-500 depending on options you want. I have the trunk mount kit with with the hd pump and purge with the dual nozzle opton. Also ther kits have a control that you mount in the car for totall control over the kit.
