Boost on New Motor?
Boost on New Motor?
I am considering my options here....
i am leaning towards building a Forced Induction LT1 with the STS turbo switchable between 5 and 15psi.
Question: is boost bad for a brand new engine? should i break the engine in before i add the turbo? or should i set it up to run the way it is going to be run.

Re: Boost on New Motor?
You want to give the rings adequate time to seat and an N/A condition is the most ideal condition for break in. So my advice is to stay out of the boost as much as possible for the first 3-400 miles.
Re: Boost on New Motor?
I drove my basically new 383 LT1 for about 450 miles before it saw 15#'s of boost on the dyno. Everything seemed to work fine for me, but I would agree to drive it a bit with no boost for about 500 miles before opening it up. just my opinion though, I am no expert.
Re: Boost on New Motor?
I herd that running small amounts of boost is good for the ring seating. I've got my new motor set at 4-5 psi right now for the break in period boosting occasionally. Is there any reason that I shouldn't be doing this???
