224/236 low lift or high lift?

Just bought a p1sc twin kit for my lt1 and trying to decide which cam to use. I plan on building a forged 355 and using stock trickflow heads. I know alot of people on here use the 224/236 low lift cam but I have read that the high lift would be better. I am just wondering what do you compromise when you increase lift? It is a street and strip car not a daily driver. But I do want to keep my power brakes.

I have a few different blower grinds that I use with great success, none of them have lift less than .575 if that tells you anything.

I understand that more lift = more power. But, anytime you add power you compromise something else. What I want to know is the negative effects of a cam with more lift.

I use the high lift version with my P1-SC and 383. I made the power in my sig on the last dyno tune and it carries a nice tune with it. I would def go with the high lift

I no expert on this but generally the higher lift=higher rpm and power band. Lower lift cams make more torque down low. Also higher lift cams are more prone to cam surge.

All this being said. I would go with a high lift version that doesn't have much overlap for a blown application. You can get away with a smaller LSA by increasing the ramp rates such as the Comp XE grinds. The bad thing about the Comp XE grinds is the wear and tear on your valves, springs and rockers.

Everything is a compromise when selecting your cam.

The only real disadvantage to the high-lift version is valvetrain setup. You have to be fairly careful when choosing springs and setting them up. You have to run about 145 lb on the seat, but still be capable of the .624" exhaust lift.

I should mention I am talking about the comp cam 224/236 grinds one with 536/555 the other 605/622 But of course I am open for suggestions. I am also curious as to what upgrades will be needed for the higher lift version.

I typically use the Morel's but if price is an issue we will go with a Comp R. I normally use the Comp OEM and the Morel as my two go to lifters.
