Post rollbars need to be welded in to be legal for track?

I plan on making my convertible run low 12's high 11's. this being said I will need a rollbar, but this is my daily driver, and those rollbars look pretty confining, doesn't look like you can even adjust the seat back very far. Is there a way I could install the rollbars only at the track, then unbolt them for the street? I have no experience with these things, so I don't know what the tracks want

Cars without frame (your f-body) must securely attach roll bar with 6 by 6 inch x .125 (1/8 inch) steel plate on top and bottom of floor bolted together with at least 4 3/8 inch bolts and nuts. You had better read the rest of the IHRA rule book for the rest of the requirements.

Another option would be to weld the main hoop and downtubes, and have removable door bars, and seat bar. Then, you could just bolt them in when you go to the track, and still have some seat adjustment on the street. If you go into the high 11's, you will need at least a drivers door bar.

BTW you can weld the plates in also.

A removable belt bar is illegal. Only Swing OUT side bars. they must swing OUT. If you use clevisis they must be bolted with at least grade 5 bolts.

good luck!

Thanks for the input guys. My main concern is using the stock seats and seatbelts, and be able to move the seat back some, with reclining it also, I want my passenger seat to recline all the way back for long trips. I really don't care if its hard to get into the car, I already think it is anyway. From what I gather from the posts, it sounds like I could just unbolt the whole assembly for the road and in again for the track--is this right.

convertible + 11s = cage, not a 5pt bar. That might not be a lot of fun to unbolt and bolt back in.

Of course, you could go to any number of tracks around here and never have to worry about tech, rules, or safety.
