opening cut out during 1/4 mile run

I've been playing with the idea about opening my cut out at a certain rpm to keep the torque there at lower rpm's. Does anyone know what that point might be? Mine only takes a second from fully closed to fully open so do you think this would help 1/4 mile times also?

Are you basing this on the myth of having backpressure to retain low end torque? Leave it open the whole time. Backpressure has no effect on performance.

My mechanic who used to race vettes at the drags, says, yes, you do need some backpressure. Guess it's up for discussion,I dunno.

Only one way to find out. Make several runs both ways and see if it comes to some conclusion.

Were they older vettes? Because the myth evolved from older cars. Very good read here:

Backpressure has no purpose on newer fuel injected engines.

I have carb and FI cars. You dont want backpressure. Everyone "back in the day" uncorked there car for good gains. I remember when my dad 1st raced his GTO he unbolted the pipes , always was faster. Now if you had a good true dual setup you would not see as much a gain. I dont know why GM decided to put single exhaust on 3rd/4th gens (along with the 7.5 rear) lol.
