Kooks LT1 Long Tubes install pics and review....
Re: Kooks LT1 Long Tubes install pics and review....
Bought it new when I was living in California. But it was really just sitting in the garage collecting dust for years. Was glad I found the right buyer, and I've been to his home and BS'd about what he's changing, why it was built the way it was, etc.
If it was a street car I would have driven it a bit, but at 80 years of age I just wasn't up to the work of taking it to the track. I live 7 miles from Old Bridge Raceway Park ("Englishtown", home of the NHRA Summer Nationals for 40 years). But they closed the 1/4-mile and 1/8-mile tracks a few years ago and are leasing the site to Copart to store their huge inventory of salvage vehicles. The track had a huge battle going on with surrounding neighbors who had built their McMansions 30 years after the track opened, and couldn't handle the noise from the track. I would have had to trailer it to the two other tracks in NJ (only one is seemingly still in business) and I sold my trailer a few years ago to get it out of the yard, and gave my Silverado tow vehicle to my son.
It was built as a 9-second car, and that introduces a whole new set of requirements - NHRA certified full cage (I only had a beefy roll bar), NHRA competition driver license, a chute if it runs over 135 MPH, full fire suit, upgraded helmet, neck brace, gloves, window net, etc.... just wasn't up to it. Soooo, I live vicariously through the new owner.

Just to post up an answer from my end even if he does not see it....
There is no oil cooler on mine. It's a tight fit with the Moroso pan, even with the AC Delco PF454 filter. However, it does work.

Re: Kooks LT1 Long Tubes install pics and review....
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm struggling with the oil filter issue with my '96 Z28 (manual transmission) with Kooks. I was of the understanding that I didn't have an oil cooler (manual transmission, 1LE), but maybe I do? In any event, are the PF454 or K&N2002 really my only options, even if I have no oil cooler? I know that when I did headers on my WRX, I just went to a smaller diameter oil filter. But it doesn't seem there's a smaller diameter filter out there, just a "tall" and "short" version?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
