I'm looking for headers...
I'm looking for headers...
For my 94z. I have to pass emissions and they do look under the car so i'm guess I can't get longtubes. is that correct?
what do you guys think about these?

Kooks LT1 1" 3/4 with emissions fittings.
Kooks Y-pipe w/ cats
Borla adjustable catback.
I passed VA emissions (barely) with this and with the parts in my sig. As long as you keep your Airpump connected to the air fittings on the headers, cats and EGR on the car, you should pass a visual. Just keep the converters hot so they light off fast.

it mostly depends on how strict they are in your area. when you mentioned thinking longtubes won't pass visual, i take it as you were inferring that very strict places require the stock location of the cat in order to pass. i have MAC mid-length headers that keep everything in the stock locations with all the emission hook-ups to pass. i noticed a very nice gain from them as well. i'm sure most places wont really care about the cat position but it would be best to find that out before hand. with that said, longtubes should be the best bet for performance
also, it would be a good idea to put your location in your profile for a better idea if someone knows the rules of your area

I think I'll just call an emissions place just to see if longtubes will pass a visual. can longtubes pass the actually emissions test as long as I have a cat??
I have a magnaflow hi-flow cat

By definition, long tubes do not pass, as they relocate the cats. That's the answer the emissions station will give you.
However: in many (not all) areas, a visual is often skipped, or because the 'inspectors' have no idea what they are looking at, they see a cat-looking device and call it good.
If you are terrified about passing emissions, do not mod your car. Pretty much any mod that makes power is technically not emissions legal, because we have stupid emissions laws in this country. Ought to just be a sniffer and 'is it blowing clean', but the morons in government want to dictate what parts we have rather than just verifying low emissions.
If you are interested in performance, forget the shorty and mid headers, you'll be giving up too much of your gains compared to long tubes.
If they do a visual and a sniffer, long tubes will almost always get by the visual, and will blow clean IF the emissions parts (air pump, cats, egr, etc) are there and functional. (Assuming either stock cam or mild and dyno tuned)

Federally LT's won't pass, but some states ignore federal laws on this and only care that you have the required emissions equiment in place and operational.
Talk to the shop and see what your state is like.

There are places in TX that do too, but they'll still pass LT's on visual. Just so you're not throwing codes, your equipment is hooked up and the car can pass emissions they don't care about them. Which is how it should be.

I talked to my local inspector. longtubes dont fail a visual as long as I have all the hook ups, (AIR, EGR, the cat ect.)
so I guess I need some decent coated longtubes with emission hook ups and a y that will connect to my cat for not a lot.
