exhaust leak from headers

i have a set of bbk shorty headers w wraps on them. i have just recently changed the gaskets between the haeders and block and didnt have any leaks. the other night i was driving and seem to have burned up or blown the gasket cuz it started leaking while i was driving. any suggestions?

i have been looking at getting pace setter lt headers to free up some more room. could i just modify my y-pipe or do i need to buy the y-pipe they have and would it still be street legal?

If you have header wrap, there's chance you've overheated the metal and possibly cracked a weld. Most header manufacturers void their warranty if you use wrap.

buy the pacesetter y pipe. Or have one custom made.

You may have warped the header flange. Or the bolts could have backed out on you. What bolts are you using?

As for legal, what state are you in? Because running LTs in CARB states is illegal.

This is interesting.....

As far as the headers go....just like the others said....check the welds and make sure the flange is true.

It's also possible that a bolt just backed out.....did you re torque them after a heat cycle?

Wld96Z28:
If you're not already using copper exhaust gaskets (the house gaskets from Summit or Jeg's are fine) now's the time to try them! 1" long bolts on the headers are better than the 3/4" kind.
Good Luck

Not too fond of copper header gaskets. I would go with either the Felpro 1470s or Percy aluminum gaskets.

The law that prohibits moving the cat(s) or changing the number of cats is a Federal law. It applies to all states - some just choose not to enforce it.

My current copper gaskets, along with a set of ARP bolts, have been on the engine for more than 8 years, with no problems.
