Is there any benefit, performance or otherwise, in ceramic coating a Y-Pipe, and particularly a stainless steel Y-Pipe?

 

Probably not much to be gained. Not a lot of heat from the Y-pipe will be getting into the engine compartment. Keeping the heat in the tubes is not an advantage once you get past the primaries, so scavenging is not an issue. Appearance benefits are limited as well, since exposure of the coating to road grime and road salt seems to result in rapid corrosion, even with the cera-metallic coating. Stainless is fine uncoated, although stainless can also be attacked by chlorides where they dose the roads heavilly with salt.

 

Thank you. I live in Michigan right now, so there is quite a bit of salt. But I don't really plan to drive the car a lot, especially in the winter, once I get it all back together.
