4" mufflex with dual out spintech
4" mufflex with dual out spintech
looking for someone with experience with this kit or some sound clips? i really want to run this setup but i am unable to find any info on this kit. i dont want to buy it if i dont like the sound, preferably someone with some decent mods done can chime in. im gonna be running it on a 383 with an AI topend and full bolt ons etc. how good is this setup? sound/power etc?
I just received my 4" setup single tip w/ Flowmaster muffler this week. Haven't had a chance to install it but it's a HUGE exhaust system. I'm already squemish thinking about the install and fitament issues related to Mufflex systems. I'm going to get it work though. Wish I had a sound clip for you but I won't for at least another 2 wks...business comes 1st in my line of work.
The clips I have heard have been nice and deep to way obnoxious loud.
May have better luck checking LS1tech for clips as that's where I heard most of them...but on LS1's.

Mufflex has a soundclip of that setup on their website.
The SpinTech system is a lot quieter and more mellow than the system with the single-out Flowmaster. I had the 4" with the Flow, and it had a booming resonance at about 2,500rpm, and was generally loud all the time. I rode in the Mufflex owner's Z28 with the dual-out SpinTech and it was much quieter, without the resonance. He also did side by side comparisons of the Flowmaster and the SpinTech at Englishtown, and wasn't able to measure significant differences in performance between the two systems. But his engine was not heavilly modified.
A friend of mine pushed 1,125HP of Vortech blown 383 LT1 power through the 4" Mufflex/Flowmaster system, and it never held him back on power. Eventually, to save 50# of excess weight, he removed the Mufflex, and the car showed no change in RWHP on the dyno.

Then I had to cut about 1.5" off the tailpipe (muffler side) to line up the Tailpipe hanger somewhat correctly. Took me awhile to get it perfect so it wasn't real easy but the results were worth it IMO.
I'm old school so I like the Deep Tone of the Flowmaster and the tucked up turn down makes for a nice clean look.

Installed a 3 1/2" Mufflex with single out Spintec muffler. I also had trouble with the muffler hangers, and, the fit transition to the Y pipe. Also, the clamps did not work well. They would allow the tube to slip out under high flow (app... 383ci ATI D1) load. I changed all the hangers and fabbed joint locks with 1/2" tubing and 3/8-16 thd rod. Also fabricated a new 3 1/2" pipe with QTP cut-out from the Y. I've had alot of problems, but, learned alot modifying from the started. B.

I agree a good test fit is in order but when you drive the car the system will settle and that is where I was having my issues.
The over the axle tube has a slotted mount that works nicely but I still had to modify my frame mount (elongate the holes) to better situate it. This was done to give more room of adjustment and help keep the pipe off the frame.
Also when you test fit your talipipe you will notice the hanger is way off. This is why I cut 1.5"'s off the pipe on the muffler side and made major changes to the rubber mount aswell.
Remember I have the 3.5" kit so the 4" kit may be just as difficult esp. over the axle.
Anyway Good luck Keep me informed and If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I agree on the slip out under high load scenario cause that's what happened to mine after finally getting it tight enough with a breaker bar I've had zero issues.

Oh good the fitting is HORRIBLE! I still haven't got it on. They must've sold me the wrong setup or something as the I pipe is ok but the pipe over the axle is TOO long! I'm going to have to cut a foot off easy just to get that to fit. I'm comtemplating right now to call Mufflex and see what the deal is but I hear the CS sucks. Only reason I'm going to stick w/ it is I want to see what it sounds like but if I don't like it I'm switching to a oval X-pipe TD design. Utter disgust to say the least. You get what you pay for and it sure seems like it in this situation.
Just had to vent.

Not sure if this will help you but heres a shot of my Exhaust properly assembled Off the car before I installed it.

And a couple on the car right after install

No pics of it after modifications Sorry too Cold Now.

Thanks for those pics! Mine is just as long if not longer. I've got a friend coming to give me a hand in a week or so, so hopefully that'll be the ticket. Is yours a 4"? I swear my pipes look larger than yours. Your hangers are different too.
