Yank s2800 or s3000
Yank s2800 or s3000
I'm looking to get a converter for my '95 z28 and I'm stuck between these two. The only differences I see is the extra 200 rpm of stall and the 1.95 str as opposed ot the 1.9 for the s2800.
Is it really worth the $75 for the extra 200rpm? Also, what difference would the higher STR make when compared to the s2800?
My car is basically stock, aside from the 3.73 gears and SLP exhaust/CAI.

Dude if you've got 3.73's, then go with Yank SS3600 with the 2.5 STR. Yes it is $775, but well worth it. That SS3600 is about the highest i would go though on a stock motor. The converter is not as loose as you'd think. My car still rolls foward with my foot off the gas and will move below 2K rpms. I'm putting in 3.73's this weekend in my car and i'm hoping to hit a 12.

I just cant afford that man, I only have $1500 to put on this transmission and I set aside $1000 for the rebuild itself, leaving only $500 for the converter.
I can put another $75 or so towards it if the s3000 is worth the extra money, which is why I made this post. I'm not an expert on converters, but the Yank site said the s3000 is good for .2 of a second over the s2800 at the track and that was enough to raise the question with me. 200 rpm doesnt sound like much, which is why I'm hoping for some more insight on the subject.

But have you considered the TT3300? It's $50 more. its got a 2.4 STR ratio, which means it will hit the tires hard off the line, which means you will need good drag radials for the track. The TT3300 is also a 9.5" converter meaning that your motor will spin up faster. I just think that you will be kicking yourself when you see that the 2800 and 3000 close to stock (in driveability).
The 2800 and the 3000 are more "topend" converters and are ~12" (stock size). With a 1.9 and 1.95 STR the converter will pull up top more.
Like on my car I have a 2.5 STR and i can tell the car kind of falls down up top, but from 35mph I can floor it and smoke the tires.

Thanks a lot for the informative reply man, I appreciate it. I'll hold off on ordering one today and look into the TT3300, I see your point and it may be worth waiting a bit longer so I can afford the TT3300.
www.tbyrnemotorsports.com has a $25 discount on $500+ online orders and the shipping + core is $53, putting the TT3300 just below $600. I'll just wait till the total bill comes back for my trans and see how much $$$ I have left over to put in the converter.

man 350 rwhp is alot in an auto. especially an LT1, you'd be looking at Heads and Cam before you got 350 rwhp especially through a stall. I think you'll be fine with that converter.

I just got a call back from the trans shop, looks like he made the decision for me :P Unfortunately my front planetary broke and I have to replace a lot of the hard parts, its gonna cost $1350 instead of the $900 I was expecting, so Yank s2800 it is

Thanks for the info Bersaglieri, I looked up some info on Edge and it looks like they got a good reputation for building a strong converter. I gave'em a call and talked to Andre and was surprised that I could pick the stall and STR and still keep the same price. I'll be ordering a 3000rpm stall 9.5" converter with a 2.45 STR for $525. Even the shipping was cheaper than any place else I checked, with no core charge. Total price is $556.90, you can't beat that

Frankly he's the best TC guy I have ever spoke with. Enough that I sold my Midwest in favor of an Edge. Everyone with one runs awesome times. Glad everything worked out for you. I need to talk to Andre about working on comission
