Why do people say the Street Twin is expensive?

My clutch on my fairly stock 96 ws6 is on its way out, with the clutch begining to chatter and slip.

When pricing out the ST in comparison with other clutches, it only seemed to be ~$200 more at the most.

Spec Stage 3 + new flywheel = ~$750-800 shipped

Street Twin = $970 on a recent GP

Why do people say the ST is almost double the price of other clutches? If you price out a new clutch and flywheel, the prices don't seem that far off. Coupled with the fact that it is cheaper to get new disks for it when needed, it seems like the total cost of ownership of a street twin would actually be less than replacing clutches every few years.

Finally, I've heard too many horror stories about people having specs chatter and slp clutches blow, so for only a few hundred more, you get the peace of mind of basically buying the last clutch ever for your car.

There is never money (or time) to do it right the first time, but always enough to do it over again!

When you consider the ST will be the last clutch you ever buy, and the fact you can "rebuild" it with new disks for like $200, there's no reason not to go with the Street Twin.

My car's been an M6 for only a month now and I'm still learning how to drive the ST but its still well worth the initial investment IMO.

I think that pretty much sums it up for a lot of people around here.
