Wheel stud removal

Im going with a set of 15" welds on my 12 bolt. Im installing longer wheel studs, do i have to pull the axle out to change studs due to the ABS ring behind the caliper, and get it pressed back on?? anyone with welds if you can please reply. Thank you

Yes, you need to pull the axle's....I didn't take mine in to get them pressed on. I heated them to pull them off and wacked it with a hammer a few times and then I just heated them up with a torch nice and evenley and them knocked them back on. Still works fine after 2 years..

NO YOU DONT HAVE TO REMOVE THE AXLES. You can just grind down the backing plates a little with a dremel and GM makes a stud the works perfect it use soctory for a 1 ton truck part # 22551491 the are much cheaper then arp.

Well then how are you going to put the new studs in with the exciter ring for the ABS. There is now way to do it axles MUST come out. I have those wheel studs already also. They are very good. Thanks dude

NO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO COME OUT. knock out the old stud grind the backing plate down for clearence for the stud to go through the old hole. push the stuck into the hole. then take a lug nut thread it on to the stud the hit it with an impact wrench it will pull the stud all the way in. much easier the pulling and axel. and much cheaper. you don't have to have them pressed in.

You obviously don't have ASR or TCS on your car though, therefore you don't have the reluctor wheel on your axles. WITH that reluctor wheel, you DO HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR AXLES so that you can remove the reluctor wheel. It's got nothing to do with the backing plate for bolting up the calipers.

........check out a car with traction control, and you'll see the studs can't be changed that easily.

If you've got C-clip eliminators (who wouldn't on a 12-bolt) its a matter of a few minutes to pull the axles. Why start grinding things? And does the Moser come with press-in studs? The standard on the Strange is screw-in, with threaded holes for both 12mm and 1/2".
