One of my ex-gf's friends is coming over tomorrow cause she's been having some problems with her Firebird and I said I'd help her fix some of them tomorrow. All the stuff she told me is no problem, except she says she thinks something's wrong with her transmission. She said her guy friends tell her she needs a COMPLETELY new transmission. Yeah, ok, no way in hell that's possible unless she cracked the damn housing or something lol .

But anyways, I'm not a tranny expert, and I know I probably won't be able to fix it since whatever it is is probably some internal thing, but I still wanna sound smart. I've never had tranny problems so I don't know much about them. What are some common problems and their symptoms of 4L60E's? I'd at least like to be able to tell her what's wrong with it.

 

Maybe she's having sensor problems that is making the car run like ****. An engine acting up due to bad sensors can fool someone who is not an expert on cars into thinking the tranny is messed up.

Check the tranny fluid, if it is low I guess it could cause problems.

 

Autos arent really like the 6 speed cars where you can just fix this or that. When you redo an auto, you pretty much redo the whole thing.

 

Don't know anything about cars? Far from bud, I just don't know a whole lot about transmissions internally.
