What exactly causes 3rd to slip on A4s?
What exactly causes 3rd to slip on A4s?
I've had my 4L60E rebuilt on different places and 3rd always starts slipping after a while... I've tried different tranny fluids and coolers, with and without vacuum modulator with the same results... what exactly causes this type of friction on the discs that enables them to slip...? Any ideas...? Is 220 too high for a tranny? That's the highest shown on a temp sticker...
I don't have a SUPER engine (around 375rwhp) to go around killing trannies all the time.

Re: What exactly causes 3rd to slip on A4s?
Mine slips at WOT 2-3 shift. Now if thats what your talking about, 2nd gear is usually the gear you kick down to at WOT and it's an always "used" gear during normal driving. That means it gets up to a decent rpm before shifting usually during driving. I just think the clutch's used with that gear just go faster because they are used more, hence the slipping into 3rd.

The 3-4 clutches are a weak area in a 4L60E, unless you know what modifications to make and what parts to use. We do many things that help the 3-4 clutches when we rebuild them.
220 is a little high for transmission temp.

Could I but the parts I need to make it stronger from you? (shipping to Miami)
What could cause my tranny temp to be this high? I have a B&M tranny cooler and an edge 3000 stall converter
