What trans is the PCM programmed for? The 17 tooth reluctor, with the correct VSS sensor will be compatible with a PCM tuned for an M6. Where you have problems is when you have the 40-tooth A4 reluctor and an M6 program.

The computer has the M6 program in it. The TH-400 has the 17 tooth reluctor. I have the reluctor, sensor, and pigtail from the early 90's chevy 454SS truck.

The M6 program expects a 17-tooth signal. You have a 17-tooth reluctor. You shouldn't need anything else. But I thought I had the same sensor setup, and it put out a 40-tooth signal.

Well maybe I have the 40 tooth rel., but I thought it was the 17. I could be wrong. If the M6 has the 17, then I prob. do have the 40, Because when I'm going like 40-50mph my speedo says over 100mph.

The speedo will read 40 / 17 = 2.35 X the actual speed. If that's the case, you put an A4 program in the PCM, and its compatible. But now you have the codes for the missing A4 components setting off the SES light. I imagine you could just have those programmed out. A buddy of mine with a TH400 in an LS1 car found a "sim" package for the A4 component deletion, but it was a huge package with tons of wiring - filled his console up with a bunch of junk. I had the Dakota Digital unit, but it died eventually, so I just don't worry about how fast I'm going (track car).

Now I have the Gear Vendor, and I thought it might be possible to check with GV to see if they make a 17-tooth reluctor for their tailshaft.

I went ahead and ordered the dakota and talked to a guy who seemed to know what he was talking about. So I'll give that a try and see what happens. Thanks for all the help and I'll let you know how it turns out. How much did you pay for the Gearvendor?

I bought the GV used from a friend, who only used it for a few months.... $1,500.
