Ok, 3-4 clutches aren't engaging at all.

What are all possible reasons for this? It all started Thursday evening. The transmission had shifted and ran flawlessly before. If the clutches had been burning up wouldn't it have slipped at one point before Thursday? I'm hoping it's something "cheap". Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me like the 3-4 clutch is burned up. There may be some solonoids that are faulty , but I doubt it, they would usually throw up a flag.

Not flushing the tranny allows the fluid to go bad which in turn ruins the clutch packs...you better get ready to buy a tranny...

The transmission fluid is still pretty red. Although, we checked it last night and it smelled a little burnt.

Heat is the killer of trannies and the 3-4 clutch is the first thing to go on these trannies. When you fix this get a trans cooler. Prob better off buying a used one online for around $300 than paying for a rebuild price wise.

Yeah, the car has been running hot lately. How much you think it'll cost to get whatever clutch is gone fixed? And about $300 for a trans cooler?

Could possibly doing a transmission flush remedy the problem?
