Re: What 6 speed?

PLEASE post in the correct forum. "6 speed" questions don't belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Moving to "Drivetrain".

Don't PO the moderator.

The Allison 1000 series is a nice 5 speed that should handle your torque. Might require some 10 lb hammer mods of the floorpan, however.

Didn't like the TKO 3550 recommedation, huh?

donno, I looked into it, i like to be able to compare, I'm thinking a Viper T56, some of those were rated at 650tq, so that ought to be enough... but I'm not sure...

the TKO 3550, is a 5 speed I really had my heart set on a 6 speed

and I'm not trying to **** him off, he's got great advice, when it's given (thats why he is a moderator). I am simply stating that I placed in that forum completely aware that there is a drivetrain forum.

Re: What 6 speed?

I really suggest a search, this has been posted about a zillion times and the people who know something about the topic get tired of re-writing what they have said before. My take, without all the elaboration, is that if you are using street tires, don't worry about breaking it. If you are using a 10" race tire on a prepped surface, you proabalby will break the 10-bolt first. If you are running a 10" tire on the track and a 12-bolt or 9" with a good clutch (Street Twin) it will last a while but will not be bullet proof. It will not hold up to big tires, a sticky track, and a good clutch but since you can't fit a big tire on a 4th gen without major mods, this is a non-issue for 99.99% of the people reading this.

The best T56 mods are from g-force transmission. Like anything good, bring $$$.
