weird tranny issues
weird tranny issues
93 auto Z28 with about 108k miles, recently it started to hold the gears about 1000 rpm longer, then shifts normal. Like it used to shift outta first at like 10mph (2000 rpm, when just driving normal with my 3.73s) but now it dosne't shift till about 3000rm an 15-20 mph. It is like that with all four gears, also it downshifts like it used to. Any ideas as to what the hell is going on?

Could be a problem with the governor, or the TV valve. Try this...Find your TV cable at the throttle body. This is the cable running to the transmission. You'll see a "button" where it pivots on the throttle body lonkage (You may have to remove black plastic cover). There will be a braided cable runnung to that button.
Start the car...With the engine running, pull on that braided cable a few times and let it snap back (Make sure you don't side load the "button" or it'll break).
After you snap it a few times, drive the car. If shift point feel normal again, then it's probably a TV valve, in the valve body, hanging up.
The next (easiest) place I'd go to is the governor. It's the round cover, near the tail, on the drivers side. You'll have to drop the crossmember, and lower the rear of the transmission to get the governor out.
Hold the governor with the gear facing up, and push in on both weights at the same time. You should see the valve in the center drop down. it should move freely as you compress and release the weights. Look inside the weights to make sure both springs are still present (one on each side). Make sure the "heads" of the covernor isn't loose on the shaft. The inner weights should move with little resistance inside the outer weights (against spring pressure). I've seen the inner weights wear into the outer weights, and get stuck.
