Any links to finding the part # for JUST the disk would also be helpful.

UPDATE: NEVERMIND. I listened to someone say the top picture goes to the flywheel. WRONG! I now have a transmission fused to the block because this is BACKWARDS. The spring back on sprung hubs goes to the flywheel. Similarly, the protruding splined hub (sticks up about 1 to 1.5 inches) also goes to the flywheel. Due to being told incorrectly I will now have to cut holes in my bell housing and unbolt the pressure plate so I can get the transmission off the block.
Hate to hear you had so much trouble. Most of the time, "flywheel" is printed somewhere on the "spring'd" side of the hub. I'm really surprised that you were able to pull the transmission to the bellhousing with it backwards. Man...I bet the pressure plate springs were over stressed.

Starion,

To my knowledge, there are no other pressure plate upgrades for the LT1 other than an LT4 style plate. Which is what you generally find in all the clutch kits now.

With that knowledge, ask SPEC what do they do to make the LT4 style plate work? Heck, ask for a picture of the plate used with that disk.....compare it to the LT4 plate.

Some of the links I posted up for the Valeo kit no longer carry the kit. It says discontinued, but Valeo still shows it on their site.

It looks like that maybe some of the Autozone, Advance, etc manufacturers are getting the message that that the pressure plate needs balancing.

One other choice could be this on www.rockauto.com

ACDELCO Part # 381291

The picture of that kit appears to be the LT4 plate. It has been my experience that ACDelco parts are manufactured correctly. So if you can't find an LT4 plate in a new clutch kit that is balanced....try the ACDelco one.

Another option could be this other ACDelco unit on Rockauto too.

ACDELCO Part # 383538
This thing comes with a Kevlar disk. It's $500+ for the kit. Wonder if it works good?

Thanks guys. I decided to stick with my stock Valeo and just got it resurfaced. Surprisingly it only took 3 thousandths to clean up. RockAuto is the plan for a new stock disk as that should serve my purpose on the Starion trans swap which won't likely exceed 400 rwhp and at 70% the weight and torque needs of the Z28.

I recently purchased a 1995 Formula M6 with a weak Centerforce clutch. I would love to replace it with the 'stock' Autozone LT4 that you guys are talking about, and get a different disc, but when I called around KCMO, they said that all they have is the one with the flywheel included and it costs $389!
Am I too late to buy the $200 kit? Does anyone know the correct part number for the LT4 clutch kit?

I am in the market for a new clutch, and I have been reading around on several forums about how the pressure plate that comes with the kit is the same as what I pick up at a local parts store (Specifically a Valeo PP). If it is not, what is different about Spec's pressure plate that would give it more clamping force?

Spec's reply:
Jeremy is out of the office until Tuesday,

But without going into any trade secrets, the pressure plates we build often use OEM components to start with, but we machine pivot points to yield mechanical advantage as well as change springs for different applications. We don’t use an off-the-shelf unit on any of our clutches.

I am on my 2nd SPEC stage 4. The first one was installed in 2003. Flawless. I installed the next on in 2009. I've been turbo'd (T76) since 2008, daily driving and drag racing all the while. Whether I'm on the streets or at the drag strip, I'm always on 305x35x17 Nitto DR. My car has gone 129mph in the quarter, off the highway and onto the track. Full 3650 weight, full interior, no changing of tires,etc. The clutch feel is not oppressive (feels like stock to me but I haven't driven a stock clutch since 1999) and the thing NEVER SLIPS. I'll buy another SPEC stage 4 when this one is worn out.

FYI guys, looks like Valeo is producing LT1 clutch kits again. They are on RockAuto. I've ordered one and will report back if it is genuine....appears to be....I've had a scammer try to pass one off as Valeo, but was a knockoff.
