Two questions - cracked MAF housing, clutch "chatter?"

The MAF housing is cracked;

LT1 MAF crack.

It doesn't seem to affect how the car runs, there is an idle problem, missing and sometimes backfiring when you crack the throttle off idle but the EGR is leaking though. I got a new EGR valve coming and will see what that will do for that problem.

Next is the clutch. As far as I know it is stock with about 70,000 miles on it. It does not slip except during a heavy thottle start in first gear. I would call the noise a buzz, is this what people call "chatter"? There is no problem doing a first gear burnout when you aggressively engage the clutch, that is why the partial throttle slip, buzz, chatter, or whatever it is called is so weird. There doesn't seem to be any vibration in the clutch or drivetrain, I have never seen a clutch act this way.

Why is the clutch doing that? Is it a common problem?

Thanks,

Jesse

Just to follow up, I put a new MAF on and it is much crisper during a rap of the throttle. Datamaster shows more airflow during these throttle blips, the missing and sometimes backfiring is completely gone.

Since this appears to have been reduced to a clutch question, let's move it to "Drivetrain".

Could traction control have anything to do with noise like this?

I don't think the car has traction control but there is a toggle switch that the previous owner nor I knows what for.
