Turbo 350 downshift problems

.My th350 trans. has stopped shifting and down shifting properly after I have installed a new kickdown cable. The trans. worked great before but now it doesn't when put into drive. It works like always when man. shifting though. The upshifts are soft and early when in drive and it will not down shift if over 2000 rpm when before the up shifts were very hard and it would down shift at almost any rpm. I know the cable is adjusted right because I have worked as a mechanic for several years now and have installed many of them with out any problems. I just don't know much about trannys except for removing them and installing. Also it acts the same wether or not the cable is hooked up.The reason I changed it was it was leaking fluid at the tranny and the hook up at the carb had been messed up by the previous owner. Any help is greatly appreiciated and sorry for being long winded.
