Does the Viper transmission bolt up to an LS1? Also whats the difference in a Viper transmission and a stock one?

I'm not entirely sure... I know they're both T-56's, and the Viper comes with heavy duty forks, cast iron I believe, instead of weak aluminum in the F-Body. As far as bolting up, the Viper has a V-10, so unless there's an adaptor plate, they probably wouldn't. Like I said, not 100% though.

I was wondering because on D&D Performance site they sell the viper transmission on the same page as the stock one for an ls1 so I thought it might bolt up. Anybody else know anything???

The Viper T-56 is not a direct swap.

I can't find the article a the moment, but there was a very detailed write up in either Chey High Performance or Hot Rod a few months ago about aftermarket modular bell housings that will allow you to do the swap. (Other minor mods are required as well) Hopefully someone can post some more infor about this.

I do remember that the Viper tranny has a beefier input shaft, and other beefier internals as someone mentioned earlier.

You might try a search over at ls1.com. I believe that some folks were talking about this a while back.

The Viper T56 will not bolt up without modification. The input shaft is larger, it has a steel 3-4 shift fork and heavier duty syncros. There may be other differences but those are the only ones I remeber reading about. No need to worry though, I've read the GM T56 is good for about 650 rwhp.

uuuhhmmmm... and thats why they bust fter 3 months on a 500hp ls1? I dont think tht 650 rting is for very long. It might take it for a few passes, but after that, i dont think so.

sorry to revive this old thread, but the tremec t56 the ls1's have just cant compare to our lt1's Borg Warner t-56...lt1's m6 can handle much more power well, 94-97 at least
