What paint do you use on a rear?
>I painted my Strange 12 bolt with 1 can of Rustolium black and covered it with their clear coat .
don't forget to mask off the vent and around the axle ends and the differential cover too .

I used a Rustoleum semi-gloss black, except for the center section, where I used a "Hammertone Silver" to make it look like aluminum, and match the rear cover.

Do you have to primer it or just get the paint and spray it on? Is there a specific rustoleum kind or any rustoleum black? On the rustoleum website there are plenty of different kinds of paint you can get.
A friend of mine used POR15 and it looks great. I plan to use the same and since it can be brushed on, there is no overspray mess. I used Rustoleum on my truck about 10 years ago and it has not held up very well.
Rustoleum has some new paint called "Rustoleum professional". It is a heavy duty enamel. I didn't use it on the rear, but on some front end parts. It flows from the can really nice, you can tell a difference.
Its always hard to remember what I did..... at least 4 years later....
.
I just poked around in the shelf full of cans in my garage....
It wasn't semi-gloss.... it was Rust-Oleum PROFESSIONAL (can't be too new) High Performance Enamel, Gloss Black, #7579. It is supposed to be suitable for application over bare metal. My Strange was brand new, no rust at all, and I just use some TSP to wash it down and remove all the grease and oil. Put some masking tape on the parts I didn't want to paint, and sprayed away. I could have done a better job getting up into the inside of some of the brackets.... 4 years later they are showing some signs of rust. Not the paint's fault.... mine.
The center section was painted with Rust-Oleum Premium Hammered Metal Finish, Silver, #7213. Again, direct application to the cast iron center section.
As a point of reference, this is what it looks like after 4 years.... needs a little cleaning and some touch-up
