Transmission temps

How cool is to cool and what is optimal? I see plenty of talk about getting more than one tranny cooler and I cant see the point as long as you have one that's efficiant.

Re: Transmission temps

180-200 is a good operating range.

Re: Transmission temps

rich...
i would like to make a 5 hrs trip, but i think i will need to be 3000-3500 rpms in OD to achieve 100-110 mph, do you think i can overheat the transmission???
I don't have a temp gauge for transmission oil, i have a radiator for oil transmission.
thanks

I was glad to see the aftermarket pan in your sig to go with the HV pump, as this is one of my pet peeves. Anyway, if you have a lockup converter, no problem at all. If it's a non-lock up you really need a tranny cooler.

That's what I wanted to here. I have the same tranny cooler as you and mine stayed at 180 +or-3.

That B&M "Hi_Tek" cooler is the shizzle. Mine stayed 180 with near 1K hp going through a non-lock up 4,200 stall converter in a ~4,000lb car!

Awesome. I still have never seen my fan work though.

Mine was on a lot. You proabably aren't generating as much heat.

Re: Transmission temps

Where can I buy a different sensor to allow my tranny fan to run at a lesser temp?

I second that. Mine has not gotten over 150 yet. My sensor is in the pan though, and I have yet to go more than about 5 miles up the hiway to the next exit and turn around and come back.
Hopefully I fixed the oil leak I had and can start to venture farther from home.
