Question Transmission problems

I blew out my transmission again its a 93 lt1 that had a 4l60 transmission can I put in a 700r4 instead? What are the difference between the 4l60 and the 700r4? when I call jegs or summit for shift kits they put the 2 tranys together. Also when I look on ebay under 4l60 items come up under 700r4? Please help if I can just but a 700r4 and bolt it right up then I'm going to do that.

Re: Transmission problems

The wiring in your 4L60 (700) is different on the '93 model than ANY other year 700. Your case connector is a round, 5 pin connector...All other 700's are square 4 pin connectors. You'd have to put a '93 specific vavle body, separator plate, and wiring in any other 700 to make it work. The '93 takes an extra checkball in the valvebody that should be left out if doing this swap. Other than the above listed things, the 700R4 and the 4L60 are pretty much identical transmissions. There are other ways to make a 700 work in a '93, but it would rquire finding an earlier auxillary valve body 700 that has provisions on the valve body for the pressure switches that the '93 specific unit uses. I believe '88-'89 has all the switch locations tapped. Later units don't have the pressure switch holes drilled or tapped in the valve body castings 9until '93)
You'd probably be better off to just get the '93 unit rebuilt by someone who knows what they're doing.
