Probably not getting responsed because you're on the wrong forum. I'll move your post to the "Drivetrain" forum.... a lot of A4 pro's there who can help you out.

You can use V8 transmissions only and it will actually need to be from a 95 to avoid mods
You can use them from the following vehicles
1-Any V8 camaro
2-Caprice and impala V8 and 4.3 V6
Any of these should be direct swaps for you other than swapping the tail housing "4 bolts"

well what happens is that it shifts fine in first then to second but then it has know 3rd or 4th. isnt the shifting electronically so could it be a fuse or something other than the tranny please help.

You can pull the dip stick and check if the fluid is red/pinkish, it should look clean and smell sweet sorta. If it smells burnt at all or has particles in it then it's definitely time for a rebuild. It's a pretty common issue to have 3-4 burn up. Is it the original transmission?

If it was a progressive problem that got worse and then finally didn't work at all, then yeah it's most likely going to be the 3-4 clutch pack. I had a similar problem with my 4L60E before I had it rebuilt, and honestly you're going to spend a ton of money at a salvage yard to get a worn out transmission, go to all the trouble of installing it, and just have the exact same issue again down the road.

I'd highly recommend getting it rebuilt or replaced with a new one. Have you seen CPT or PerformaBuilt's website? They offer some of the most affordable rebuilds that I've ever seen and from what I've read on the forums here they seem to hold up to the abuse pretty good.

Good luck

4L60Etrans don't have detent cables and we cant even buy the parts and core to build it for that much less labor etc , Hes either giving them away for less than what he has in them which I doubt or theres something wrong here
