Transgo Shift Kit vs. PCM Tuning

I hear the shift kits are good, but would PCM tuning be able to do the same thing. I know through tuning, you could stiffen up the shifts. Has anyone done both? I eventually want to tune my car, so don't want to spend money on the shift kit, if the benefits of it can be done through a tune anyways.

If there is some overlap...what is it that the shift kits can do that can't be done through tuning?

Re: Transgo Shift Kit vs. PCM Tuning

I say go for a tune over the TG kit, A tune is different and a shfit kit will definitly bite harder but if there is even the slightest problem with the tranny, the TG shift kit has been known to amplify it and cause the problem to get worse quicker. Normally resulting in a blown tranny. There are a lot of gus on here that will tell you that!

I say go for the tune and when you are ready/need to do trany work do it all at once a good rebuild and shiftkit.

Re: Transgo Shift Kit vs. PCM Tuning

I believe a tune just ups the line pressure.
I set my hpp3 on firm and loved how it would chirp the tires at part throttle.
But my tranny went after about 8 or 9 months.
Put the TG kit in and it only shifts harder and chirps the tires under power.
With the TG parts are changed inside.
I haven't had any problems with my trans since so I would recommend the TG over just upping the line pressure.

Shift kits make the trans shift faster, thus the clutches slip less and there is less wear on the tranny.
