Am I getting ripped off?
Am I getting ripped off?
A while ago I fried my a4 tranny right after my engine rebuild and it's been sitting in my parents garage since. My original plans were to save up and either rebuild it or convert it to a 6 speed, however, I work between 50 and 60 hours a week and live 100 miles away from my parents. so I rarely get out there and when I do it's not for more than a day.
Their condition for storing the car is that it has to stay mobile (1'st and 2nd still work). So there is really no way I can do it myself.
I took it to an Aamco, because the R&R guy is a friend of mine, and the builder has a decent reputation. they quoted me (assuming there is no damage to hard parts) $1875 for a r&r/rebuild. the highest rated rebuild kit they got, installation of a 2/4 corvette servo and a 2000rpm stall converter, and of course a warrenty.
what do you think? am I getting hosed?
Don't tell me I could do it for cheaper if I did it myself. Yes, if I had storage space and time, I could, but I don't.

Re: Am I getting ripped off?
You could always have someone else call them and ask for a quote for the work you want done, and just call around to other places and compare. Dosen't sound to bad,but prices change in differant parts of the country, what's cheap here may be way too high there.
