Transgo Shift kit 1 or 2

I am installing a Transgo 350-1&2 shift kit on my TH-350. I have 2600 stall and will use this car for street use only. I dont drive it everyday and actually drive it once or twice a month. I dont want my neck to snap in half, but I want a good hard shift when at WOT and firm shifts at cruising.

Do I need to install the stage 1 (Towing) or stage 2 (Performance)? I here horror stories of guys getting their heads snapped off when driving under normal conditions, and I dont want to be one of those guys. I'd like the performance kit but I dont know if this will shift hard EVERY TIME. Thanks!

When installing the kit, just follow the instructions and you will not disable the accumulators, that way the shifts should be ok around town. It also depends on what torque converter & rear end gear ratio you are running that will determine somewhat, if the part throttle shifts are firm.

Re: Transgo Shift kit 1 or 2

Thanks.

But the package says nothing about what to expect out of stage 1 or 2.

My rear gear is a 3.73.

If someone has installed either the "stage1 towing kit" or the "stage2 performance kit", can you tell me what your shift were like? the kit I have has 2 springs that decide which stage you prefer. The last of the spring swaps has 1 spring that is stage 1, and 1 spring that is stage 2. Does anyone have experiance with either of these.... towing or performance. I would hate to install the wrong spring and then hate to drive my car.

Stage 1 is for HD & towing, & the stage 2 is for Street/Strip, and having firmer shifts. If you are using a small diameter torque converter, use stage 2.

I wouldnt really describe the stage 2's shift as neck snapping... when cruising when the 1-2 shift occurs you feel the car push forward and there is a thump but its not really neck snapping. Its definately noticeable but like i was told you get used to it and grow to love it Then at WOT then its really appreciatable

Re: Transgo Shift kit 1 or 2

Thanks.

I searched last night for 2 hours on past threads and only found people asking what a shift kit does.... and not which kit to install. Last night I put in the Performance Springs in the valve body and then 2nd guessed myself if I would hate the 1-2 shift.

Also, yes my Converter is a 10" converter.

Re: Transgo Shift kit 1 or 2

i used the stage 2 in my 5.3 s-10 with a t350 trans i even disabled the accumulators and the shift is fast and firm but not neck snapping,

a lot has to do with your clutch pack clearances, a loose clutch pack will bang harder because the piston has more travel before compressing the clutches

i like to tighten all the clutch clearances and it makes for a clean fast firm shift

The problem is, is that when you disable accumulators, the rate of parts breakage goes up very fast, and you can start having bang shifts at part throttle, which is totally unnecessary. There are no minus' when accumulation is done correctly.

How do you disable the accumulators? Actually, what the heck are Accumulators? All I did was change out 4 or 5 springs in the valve body, and then installed the plate that comes with the kit that get sandwiched on top of the valve body. What are the accumulators and how do I know if I disabled them. I'm still in the learning process here.... sorry.
