trans in a 93

my son has a 93 z28, 5.7 automatic, transmission trouble, i think it is a 700r4, is there something different about a 700r4 in a camaro?

i think i saw something about a link to the trans that is different than other 700r4's

Re: trans in a 93

It is actually a 4L60 (very similar an pretty much functionally the same, but not identical to a 700R4).

Re: trans in a 93

The '93 used the 4L60, which differs from a traditional 700 in a couple ways. The '93 units had a very different switch arrangement on the valve body for lock up function. This is why you'll notice that the 4L60 has a round plug on the case. If you simply try installing a different year 700 in the '93s place, you will lose lock up function and eventually the 3-4 clutches. The 4L60 uses a different valve body and seperator plate because it uses one more check ball than a previous 700 to cushion the reverse input apply. The 4L60 uses a 4L60E style reverse input housing with a larger apply hole than a 700. The switches also required a unique internal wiring harness.

Re: trans in a 93

thanks for your replies, ive seen that 93 was a cusp year where both trans were offered. im working on getting actual identifation from my son due to hes away training with the army, he hasnt responded yet if it has a throttle cabe (700) or the module with a bunch of wires where the shifter hooks to it (4l60e). i was told thats the way to identify. either way ive learned that the tail housing is different for bosses to mount the torque arm and it has vette parts in the servo. not sure of his mods cuase he bought it already hotter than he needed but i know theres an aftermarket t body, exhuast and supposedly a chip, prolly more cuase it will snap your kneck on eccel, just looking for advice on a trans that might hold up.

Re: trans in a 93

i just dont want him to get screwed, if i can find a good solid trans at a good price and ship it to him rather than a halfass rebuild that may or may not hold up, i told him to get an est but i know in my heart i can find better
