Tranny swap

how hard would it be to drop a blown 4L60E and replace it with another 4L60E? Should I just have a shop do it or try to save some money and do it myself? and would it be easy enough to install a TC while I was doing the swap?

Re: Tranny swap

It's actually quite easy. The biggest issue I had was removing the 2 stubborn tranny lines on the passenger side. That's mainly because I don't own line wrenches though. Make sure if your doing it at home you have the car up as high as possible. Also make sure you have some good long extensions and a breaker bar wouldn't hurt. This would be a perfect time for a TC install as well. You need to remove the converter with the tranny anyway for a couple reasons. One, you'll probably never get the tranny to come back far enough to come off the TC with the TC still bolted to the flywheel. There's just not enough room. So you'll need to unbolt it and bring it off with the tranny. It's easy, just 3 bolts. Two, you will definately NOT want to reuse the TC that's currently in the car if the tranny is blown. The last thing you want is any little metal particles, or anything else for that matter running through the newly replaced tranny and trashing it as well.

Here is a website that outlines a TC install. He gives great information.
