Torque converter stall question

A member on this board said this:
"Generally for street/strip set ups you want your converter to stall around 900 rpm below torque peak...at least thats what Vig suggested in 1996..."

I am confused. My car STOCK makes 285hp@5000 and 325tq@2400. Does that mean my peak torque is only 2400rpms??? That would mean I'd want a 1500 stall, and that obviously makes no sense. Someone clear up this confusion for me please, im probably missing something easy...

By the way, Me and a buddy are installing a 2800 stall in my car on Saturday

Re: Torque converter stall question

1500 is close to stock stall.... go after the HP max.... 2800-3200 should be fine.

Re: Torque converter stall question

So then whatever Vig said about wanting a stall that is 900rpms below peak torque is not true then? I know a 2800-3200 is perfect

Re: Torque converter stall question

4100 stall would be a tad steep on a relatively stock car

Re: Torque converter stall question

That's a good rule of thumb for a race engine, but more like a couple of hundred rpm below torque peak is proabalby better. For a street setup, I would aim around peak torque. But remember, where it actually stalls and what it is predicted to stall are often quite different. I wonder where the 3,200 referred to above actually stalls? Of course, unless the car has a transbrake there is no way to really twll.
