torque converter lockup at WOT??

Is there any reason why torque converters do not remain locked in GM vehicles during heavy or WOT?

If the pcm was programmed to keep the torque converter locked up even during WOT, would that damage the stock auto transmission?

The lock up clutches can't handle the load at WOT. AFAIK, there are no lock-up converters designed for extremly hi-po setups. The PI Vigilante is claimed to be able to support a fair amount of hp. I don't know how realistic that claim is though.

Lock-up is designed to drop engine RPM's. GM (and all others) want the engine to be capable of higher engine RPM's when you're at WOT.

thanx for the replies guys. I asked cuz on part throttle, my car seems to pull harder when the torque converter locks up, especially when i'm accelerating up a hill.
