Think i got an accurate reading of my 6spd trans fluid level?

well i put the front on jackstands, and then checked my trans fluid, i know that it wasnt level, but when i took the plug out, i could feel trans fluid with my finger, think it was full or no? was the only way i could check it, i know i have a leak somewhere and dont want to be low and mess up my trans, also is that true that if your low on trans fluid that ur shifter stick will get REALLY HOT?
anyhelp is appreciated
thanks

I'm no expert, but I would think the tranny is set up like a rear differential- just add oil 'til it starts leaking out the fill hole...

I wouldn't suspect it'd make a significant difference, so long as the angle of the vehicle wasn't too far from level...

The fill hole is pretty much near the center of the T56. That means that if you raise the front end or rear end of the car, it is still OK to check the level through the fill hole. If its up to the bottom of the hole, its OK. If the car is tilted sideways, you can't check the fluid level correctly.
