thickness of ring gear for a 3-series carrier?

How thick is a ring gear for a 3 series carrier on a GM 10 bolt 7.5 inch RearEnd? i realize that a 2 series carrier's face is approx 1/4 inch lower than a 3 series, but i just ordered a ring and pinion set for my 3 series carrier and it won't sit flush on the face (gets hung up on a lip approx. 1/4 inch above the face of the carrier)...i just wanted to get some real numbers on thickness, so i can measure my gear thickness, and carrier face heigth...see what's causing my problem....Thanks,

Re: thickness of ring gear for a 3-series carrier?

yeah...i have a sneaky suspicion that my carrier I bought is not a 3 series. I bet its a 2-series, which would explain the improper carrier deck heigth. So if someone could give me some numbers to compare to in regards to the carrier, I'd much appreciate it.

btw, if you've seen my other posts, this is that carrier that the dude scammed me with (advertised as an Eaton, sent me an Auburn, it's a 10 bolt, but now I think is a 2-series and not a 3-series)

Also, if this is the case, anyone wanna sell me a spacer, or better yet trade my 3 series 4.11 ring 'n pinon for a 2-series "thick" ring 'n pinon?

Thanks,

Whether it's a 2 or 3 series shouldn't affect the gear mounting on the carrier?? They will be a tight fit going on.....use a rubber mallet or plastic (dead-blow style) hammer, and "gently" tap it down onto the carrier. It should go. The inside diameter of the gears, and the outer diameter of the carrier aren't affected by the 2 / 3 series, or the positioning of the face where the gear mounts to.

Also, if you can get it close enough to start the bolts, tighten them in a cross-like pattern, and pull the gear in.

becareful if you use the bolts to pull it on, I've seen people strip out the holes. If you heat the gear up with a torch or in an oven it will slide right on.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. Install kit will be here in a couple days, if it won't seat properly just by bolting it, we'll heat it up. Thanks again...
