Th400 Where,what And Who...

hey guys i wanted to go th400 and wanted to know what i would need to modify in order ot make it work on my car, does anyone make a boltin crossmember for the th400? also who is a well known reputable builder of these trannies or can i go with just an off the shelf TCI superstreetfighter trannies which are capable of 800hp i wanted ot go with reverse manual valve body and with a transbrake.

what is needed in order to make our stock driveshafts work with the th400 i figure it would be longer but will i need a different slip yoke?

any help would be greatly apprecaited.

I believe BMR makes a bolt-in TH400 crossmember.

What are your plans for the car? Are you sure you want to give up your overdrive? CPT could build your 4L60E to withstand 800+hp, and it would probably cost you less than that TCI would.

Can we assume you are asking about one of your B-Bodys?

The TH400 requires a TH400 slip-yoke.

Any driveshaft shop can get you a TH400 slip yoke. Here's the one I have:

http://www.markwilliams.com/detail.aspx?ID=295

I have a "slightly used" (less than a dozen passes) Mark Williams 3" chrome moly DS with that yoke, and a solid 1350 diff-end yoke. I only removed it because I needed a much shorter one when I added the Gear Vendor unit. If you are interested, and you can figure the length you need, let me know (via PM or e-mail), and I will check to see if it matches the length of the one I have available.

thanks for the info Injuneer but i wish the DS would work for my application but i think the f-bodys shaft is like 2' short of what i need. now i have to come up on a slip yoke..i hope it uses the same 1350 joints that are on my stock shaft.

Not trying to be a wiseass, but if you need a TH400, you need something better than a stock driveshaft.

All he is saying is why put a marginal DS in when if you really need a TH400 then you really need a decent DS.
I have a TH400 and a Strange 12 bolt. Connecting the 2 is a Dennys Nitrous ready DS. If you have never expierenced a DS failure at speed then trust me when I say you don't ever want too.
I am a cheap bastard but I learned the hard way that the driveline is not the place to cheap out.

i will be making a custom Alum DS regardless as it is a better price for me then just making a regular steel one.

Get a steel DS. An Al shaft has no place on a drag car (which is what I assume you are building).

I thought carbon fiber was the hot setup... and the 3.8" HD ACPT CF DS I bought failed. Now I use chrome moly. Buddy of mine with a blown 383 twisted an LPE 3.5" aluminum DS into a pretzel at less than 750 flywheel HP. He switched to chrome moly.

any serious racer is going to have steel. Its the only dependable/safe option IMO.

I don't think b-bodies come with 1350 joints (maybe a 1 ton truck) they probly have a 1310.

you can get a good slip yoke from a truck driveline shop, they are made by strange engineering. about $170 or more. with 1350 joints.

Not sure why anyone who "needs" a 400 would consider an of the shelf el cheapo converter or a POS TCI trans. They make good parts but the units are turds.

Frank at CPT may be willing to build you a 400, You could buy one from Rossler or coan or someone depending on what you need.

BTW you have a few people looking for you in the seller feedback claiming they have been scammed, just a heads up
