I'll move this to "Drivetrain", where it belongs.

The TH400 can be built to be virtually indestructible. But it lacks O/D, eats a bit more power and is heavy. I added a Gear Vendor O/D to solve the RPM problem, but it can be expensive to do it that way.

i would like to know the same thing. I might go with a built 4l60-e but iv heard good and bad things about them so id rather spend my money on a 400.

I read that the TH400 is 28 lbs lighter than a 4L60E.
No overdrive sucks if your going to drive the car alot. It seems that more people are having better luck with the built 60Es so maybe things are changing. There are people on this board who build some good overdrive trannys.
Having said that I am installing a Rossler TH400.

Frank - the 4L60E can take mid 1.5's and upper 10 second passes and hold up? I'm hoping that mine holds but I noticed on your page that your Pro Race trans is designed for cars hitting sub 1.7's.

We have many 4L60E's cutting 1.5 60 ft. times. The 4L65E output shaft is what makes this possible. Check out the "CPT CARS" page to see several 4L60E cars hanging the front wheels 8" in the air.

Re: Th400 Swap Worth Doing Over 4l60e

I ended up getting the th400 for longevity. I'm sure Frank and one or two others makes a fine 4l60e, but I had to be sure I was only go to have to replace it once. I also wanted to have the option of being able to go 9s later on. One advantage to the th400 (for the track) is the rpm drop between gears is dramatically less. So even though you give up a little power, you probably get it back in ET. Also, my car only sees about 500 miles a year and no long trips so the loss of OD is that big for me.
