swapping in hurst short throw
swapping in hurst short throw
hey guys looking to swap in a factory hurst short throw, can i reuse the bolts i'm using for the stock shifter? and will the **** off the stock one work for the hurst? and do i need a gasket or can i just use rtv sealant and call it a day? thanks in advance!
Re: swapping in hurst short throw
the bolts may be a bit short for two reasons:
- the base shifter was stamped; the hurst plate. I'm not certain if different bolts were used but...
- the bolts were used to tap the 4 holes in the tailhousing. You'll notice original bolts have a single flute to them with tapered threads toward their end.
If both shifters have original sticks, the ***** are all M16x1.5 for both.
The Hurst is pretty easy to disassemble if you wanted to clean and re-lube. Regular chassis grease would be fine but be conservative; it's not ideal to get that in the T56 w/ original fibre blocker rings.

Re: swapping in hurst short throw
thanks for the info on the shift **** that helped alot...but does any1 know for sure if i will need to buy new bolts? any1 whose done this swap that could shed some light on it?
Re: swapping in hurst short throw
Pull an old one. Measure the total depth w/ the stock shifter.
The new shifter is thicker. Do the math to determine whether you have room to run a longer than stock bolt; buy some if yes. M8 x 1.25 thread pitch.
