Re: swapping gears
I just sold a 3.42 posi axle from a low mileage Z28 for $200, look around & you can find deals on complete axles that you could swap out in a few hours in your driveway & use the money you saved to by things to help break the new one with
Re: swapping gears
The code in the glove box is GU2, as my memory serves me anyways, and that is the 2.73's. However, the previous owner told me that the car had 3.08 gears. So...Im not very sure. I know the methods to have it checked, Im not that concerned with what I have now, I am interested in what I need to do to have them installed.
As far as the dealership, much like every other story about getting work done at a dealership I have heard, my friend works there. The shop is Hometown Chevrolet in Whitehall NY, The owners grandson is a camaro nut with a 94 much like myself, and he completely willing to help...So I really dont know how much it will cost to have them put in because I havent asked him yet, Im sure it wont be too much though. :-)
Thanks

If you have someone install them make sure you get a reputable person. If someone puts the gears in that dont really know what they are doing or if they dont take time to check the patterns and measurments to make sure everything is positioned right, your rear end wont last long and it will be noisy. Luckily for me one of my best friends is a great mechanic and he has helped me with every gear install. To do it right takes time but its worth it in the end.
