strongest driveshaft ????

>Hey all ,
I'm looking for a new driveshaft (already have the 1LE DS) , but it has to be strong , and aluminun and carbon fiber are out of the question .
I looked at www.Dennysdriveshaft.com and figure that the Heavy Duty is the way to go ... who has a strong (aftermarket) driveshaft ?
Also what are the measurements BTW I have a M6 .

Thanks

Denny's and Dynotech http://www.dynotechengineering.com/ both make excellent shafts.

Pretty hard to break a Denny's "Nitrous Ready" I've broken everything else but the DS didn't flinch. He's a nice guy and stands behind his product. Denny's web site shows you how to measure for you new DS.

Mark Williams 3" chrome moly, with 4340 forged yokes, and solid 1350 u-joints.

If you happen to be putting a TH400 in, I've got a MW for sale....

Fine for light or medium duty use. Not nearly as strong as a good chromemoly shaft like the ones mentioned.

>Thanks all that replied ,
I think I will go with the Denny's driveshaft either heavy duty or nitrous driveshafts .
I should be good to go with the measuring the original stock or my 1LE shaft for their measurements ... I think .

For the modest difference in cost, I'd just pick the Nitrous Ready and be comfortable with the fact that you've got enough driveshaft to hold up to just about anything.

I'd recommend ordering it ASAP, as I ran into a wait when I held-off until last spring to place my order.

As far as measurements go, just follow the instructions on their website. It's very easy, and it's not like you've got to be ultra-accurate when taking the measurement.

Another option is a Spohn driveshaft.

There's another place called PST driveshafts, their prices seemed to be excellent. I had mine made at a local shop. It is 3.0" mild steel, 1350 U-joints and guaranteed not to break. The chromoly will save a little bit of weight but add to the cost.

I"m not sure if you guys watch Horsepower TV...but they put a 572 BB, with 720HP into a Nova...they are expecting it to run deep into the 9's...They said they were using an aluminum driveshaft..that was custom made for them (length and what not)..The reason this caught my attention, was a previous thread, with some guys arguing about how aluminum could never hold up to there 450HP cars and crap. What makes there aluminum driveshaft so different? How come these guys can use aluminum..and obviously expect it to hold up to 720HP..and mid 9 second 1/4's?? But yet it seems that so many people on here are convinced that aluminum just wont hold on there cars????

maybe, but tell me this, how much did that nova wiegh and how well was it hooking actually, not what they were expecting....
besides people throw around the work aluminum but they are actually aluminum alloys, depending on what other metals are used the in the alloy greatly affects the properties of the metal. you could compare 2 different "aluminum" driveshafts and have totally different properties, one may be junk and the other maybe for serious racing.

it's just safer to buy chromemoly, you know what your getting.

I"m not sure exact weight..but it must weigh alot more than our cars..it still has the factory chrome bumpers on it, (even though there replacing them with fiberglass to save some weight)...and the tires on the back of the thing are huge...Im sure what there expecting, will be pretty close to what it actually does. So i'm still confused on why you guys say that aluminum wont hold up to your cars???

You are assuming that they know what they are doing and are using the Al shaft because they think it's best for the combo. They often use partds because they get them free from sponsors. Look at Denny's site and read about their HD aluminum shafts. They will be glad to sell you one, for more $$$ than a CM shaft. But even they say it isn't as strong and is not recommended for racing.

Listen to what everyone is trying to tell you!
