Strange Eng. U-joint question
When I got my 12 bolt from Strange they sent a new u-joint with it. My question is, is this u-joint actually different than one that would go in the 10 bolt or do they figure they'll give you a new u-joint to go with your brand new rear end? I just bought a aluminum driveshaft last year so if it isn't any different or any stronger than the one already on my driveshaft, I'd rather just hold on to it and use it as a spare, but can anyone tell me for sure? Thanks

Re: Strange Eng. U-joint question
The U-joint they send is an adapter joint. The stock is a 1320 or something joint, the Strange/Moser 12-bolts use a 1350 U-joint. If you are running a stock (Steel or Aluminum) DS with the stock yokes/joints, then you have to install the included joint for everything to bolt together properly.
Re: Strange Eng. U-joint question
ok, thanks. Now my question is, whenever I need a new u-joint (which shouldn't be too often, but for future reference) do I have to buy it from Strange or can I just go to autozone and ask them for a u-joint out of a 12 bolt car? And if the latter is the case, what kind of car should I tell them I have? Thanks again

Re: Strange Eng. U-joint question
The U-joint you get from Strange should have a part # on it. Save the part number for future reference.
You can't just ask for a u-joint for a 12-bolt, because not all 12-bolts come standard with the 1350 yoke... the Strange does, but I believe Moser charges extra for it. The only way you could get a shop to spec out the required joint would be to tell them exactly what yoke you have on the pinion shaft (1350) and what yoke-half you have on your driveshaft (1310, 1320 or 1350).
Save the part number that came with the Strange for future reference.

Re: Strange Eng. U-joint question
Well I installed the 12 bolt today but when I took out my aluminum driveshaft to swap out the u-joint I had a helluva time trying to get it in. Hopefully Strange sent me the correct u-joint but is there a chance that my aftermarket driveshaft (inland empire I believe) would be different than a stock steel driveshaft where the u-joint goes? The actual cross part of the u-joint Strange sent me looks beefy as hell but I almost couldn't get it in at all because of it. Anyone else have similar problems installing their Strange 12 bolt? Thanks
