stall converter concerns??

I have 98 ss a4 with an air lid and I'm thinking about doing a stall. I like my car the way it is but would like it to do a little better at the track. I've heard good things about doing a stall. Can you give me better understanding of how adding one affects your car, gas milage, drivability, ect. I'm looking at doing a yank 3500 stall. This is a daily driver and I need it to be dependable!

Give me your thoughts.
