shift kit install price?

Does anyone know what the going price ,approx., for a transgo shift kit installation. I don't have the time to do it my self so I'm going to pay someone to do it. I just want to know a decent price so I won't go blind to a trans shop to have it done.

From what I have read it's a lenghty and complicated process to properly install a transgo shift kit. I heard 3-4 hours is what you are looking at being billed for labor costs.

That means $250-$300 should be in the ball park of what you might expect to pay give or take fifty bucks. Anything under $250 I would jump on and anything over $300 I would hesitate on untill I shopped around a bit.

BTW if you don't have an aftermarket torque converter but plan on one then now is the time to do that as well. You could expect to pay $300 to install a shift kit and another $200-$300 for a TC if you did them seperately. But together a shop might only charge you 350ish total because since the trans is out for the shift kit anyway the TC takes only a few extra minutes to install. Your still only getting billed for roughly 4 hours labor.

Definately cheaper to do them both at the same time if you don't all ready have a higher stall TC and want one. Just don't forget the tranny cooler if you go that route.

Good Luck

is a trans go kit any different to install then a b&m transpack? I did my transpack on my old tranny from underneath the car...only had to pull the pan and valve body....tranny stayed in the car. wasnt a tough job at all.

Wow, that's expensive. I got a guy I know to install my shift kit and tranny cooler in his spare time for about $150.

Yes a trans go is different from all the others. It's by far the most complicated to install but it's also by far the best one you could have done. The big automatic gurus at ls1tech.com would say a shiftkit wasn't worth doing unless it was the transgo.

But I wouldn't personally do a shift kit unless it was with a higher stall TC. The shiftkit really helps firm up the sloppy shifts a higher stall can cause.

The trans doesn't need to be pulled, just the valve body.

You can get TC and shift kit done for $400?????????

I plan on doing it in the future.....prob just pay someone--unless it's too expensive, then i'll take a week and do it myself.

agree 100 percent. dont pay someone. the transgo comes with a step by step video for anyone to follow. every single step performed right in front of your face and they didn't take the trans out. if you can follow directions and operate a drill and hand tools do it yourself, save the bucks, brag that you did it.

you have to drill some of the oil passage holes. it allows the oil to move quicker through the valve body and therefore shift quicker. i havent watched the video for awhile but i think some of the replacement pins also needed the respective slots drilled slightly larger.

I just did the trans-go last night. I went ahead and did all three washers in the 2nd accumulator so the 1-2 shift should be pretty tight It took me a total of about 6-7 hours but I took my time and once you get into that thing and see everything you have to do, you will want to take your time or you can severely mess that tranny up.
I'll let you know if I'm glad I did it or not when I get the car running sometime next week. I'm puting the vigi in tomorrow, and I won't be able to pick up my rear end until next week.

P.S. the video is a big help, but that guy makes the whole thing look a lot easier than it really was.
