Re: reverse lockout

Makes it extremely difficult to push the shift lever far enough to the right to engage reverse gear.

Check the fuse first.

Re: reverse lockout

Yes, I replaced mine while it was in the car. It's pretty easy. Get the car up on stands, locate the solenoid (The only thing that hooks into the shifter box portion of the tranny case). Disconnect the plug, and unscrew the solenoid with a wrench (I don't remember what size, but IIRC, a cresent fit and is what I used). Then, screw in the new one, plug it in, and reset the computer.

As for symptoms, when mine went out it made it physically imposible to put the shifter in reverse as it goes into lockout mode and would not engage to unlock it. (There's like a 3/8" round pin that blocks the shifter). Oh, and it will not effect other gears.

As a side note, ever since I put in the new solenoid, it is EXTREAMLY difficult to put into reverse. So bad that I took off my Lou's Short stick that was on my Hurst shifter because it took both hands to put into reverse, and some people (lady friend types) couldn't put it in reverse at all w/out help with the Reg. Hurst shift stick, I can put it in with one hand but it's still difficult. IF the solenoid didn't cost $89, I'd try another one. . .(the one I used was a brand new GM replacement).

Hope that helps,
-Justin
